BUSINESS
ARISING
3.1 The
minutes of the Finance Committee’s November 9, 2006 meeting were distributed to
the members present.
3.2 A
thank you letter has been sent to Concord Paving thanking them for their
donation of crushed stone for the cemetery.
3.3 The
registration for the land on Bunker Hill has been signed and is being taken
care of by Bill Finn, lawyer for the parish.
3.4 Bernard
met with the choir and discussed moving the pews on an angle. Monsignor agreed as long as there is no
structural changes. The male choir
members will take care of the move.
Irene Sheppard is looking into the cost and what is involved in
upgrading the audio system. The
CWL is presently planning a Memorial Hymn Sing, the proceeds of which will be
used to pay for the upgrades.
3.5 Eleanor
was unable to attend the Ordination of Bill Pearce on December 8. No parishioners responded to the request for
a representative from the parish to attend.
3.6 Bernard
believes that the repairs to the eaves of the church may have solved the
problem with the leak in the choir loft. He is looking into someone to repair the plaster in the choir loft
which was damaged because of the leak.
3.7 Paul
attended the Youth Deanery Meeting on November 29, 2006. 6 Youth from the parish also attended:
Caitlyn Butt, Emily Hurley, Patrick Butt, Erica Horwood, Jessica Baldwin and
Andrew Baldwin. There will be a youth
retreat in May 2007 at McCarthy Cabins in Carbonear.
Paul would like to see more youth involvement in the parish, such as a
youth choir. He will speak to Anne
Whelan, a parishioner who is also a music teacher, and discuss the possibility
with her.
NEW
BUSINESS
4.1 Bernard received an e-mail
from Gerard Butt asking the parish council to get involved with somehow
supporting the three youth pilgrims, Patrick Butt, Gerard Butt & Emily
Hurley, who will be attending WYD 2008 in Australia. Paul suggested that the three youth be introduced to the
congregation by Monsignor Bromley during Mass on a weekend in the near
future. Paul also suggested that the
announcements from the weekly bulleting be read to the congregation before Mass
begins along with a welcome to parishioners as well as guests.
4.2 Bernard reported on a
weekly bingo run by parish in Brigus and that they bring in at least $300 a
week to their parish. He suggested the K of C building as a possible location
and asked the council to consider the possibility of our own bingo to help pay
the cost of heating the church. This
led to a discussion on the need for a Fund Raising Committee.
4.3 Paul inquired whether the
Finance Committee has a budget drawn up for the fiscal year 2007 as well as a
business plan for the parish. Bernard
will check with Jack George, chair of the Finance Committee.
