ST. PATRICK=S PARISH COUNCIL

Gerard called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Jim said an opening prayer.

 

The minutes of the September 7, 2005 meeting were reviewed.  Mary moved that the minutes from the September 7, 2005 meeting be adopted as presented.  Seconded by Jim.  Motion carried.

 

BUSINESS ARISING

 

The list of priests buried in Carbonear has been completed and will be sent to Anne Griffin.

 

Since Roy Clarke has been laid off for the winter, the ordering for fill for use in the cemetery will be left until spring 2006.

 

Gerard has attempted to contact the Eastern School District regarding the St. Joseph School building.  He has spoken with the executive assistant to Dr. Darren King.  The assistant will inform Dr. King of our concerns.

 

Ray Carey has a parish committee in place for the 150th Diocesan Anniversary. 

 

Monsignor Bromley has begun formally welcoming new parishioners to the parish.  In future we will look into forming a committee for this purpose.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Jim moved that St. Patrick=s Parish Council contact IPC Photographers to see which dates are available and to discuss a contract with them for a Parish Photo Directory.  Seconded by Frank.  All in favor.  Motion carried.

            Gerard will contact the CWL to ask for their assistance in scheduling appointments for photos for the directory. 

 

There is a Diocesan Medal available from the Bishop which could be presented to a parishioner who has made a considerable contribution to the parish over the years.  Bishop Currie would be available, at the recommendation of the Parish Council, to present 2 medals at a time .  Issue deferred for further consideration and discussion.

 

 

 

NEW BUSINESS (continued)

 

World Youth Day 2008 will be held in Sydney, Australia.  In 2007 the diocese will be looking for youth to apply to represent different parishes. Gerard suggested calling a meeting with interested parents to form a planning committee, to look at things such as  fund raising, etc. Eleanor suggested that a Youth Group could be established with applicants coming from the group. Gerard will investigate the possibilities. 

 

 

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Liturgy

The committee met on September 14. Registration has begun for the Catechetical Program.  Plans are being made for the Chrism Mass in April 2006.  Ministry Sunday will take place on the weekend of October 22 & 23, 2005.  The next meeting will take place on November 16, 2005.

 

Finance

No report available.

 

Building and Maintenance

 

Frank made a motion that St. Patrick=s Parish Council accept the bid of $13 000 for repairs to the roof of the church which includes the sacristy, washrooms & furnace room, subject to diocesan approval.  Seconded by Eleanor.  Motion carried. 

Gerard will contact Jack George, Finance Committee chair and request a meeting and he will also seek permission from the diocese to carry out the repairs.

 


Parish Committee for Diocesan 150th Anniversary

 

Ray presented a typed list of objectives he has outlined.  They will meet informally in the near future.

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

The Annual Craft Fair will take place on Monday, October 10.  The Annual Bazaar will take place on November 17 (Hot suppers) and possibly November 20 (Merchandise Bingo). 

 

Eleanor presented a program called “Touching Jesus Through the Church@ which she would like to do with the parents of the children enrolled in the catechetical program.   The cost is approximately $150 US.  Deferred to next meeting.

 

            The next meeting will take place on Wednesday, November 9, 2005 at 7:30 p.m.

 

Monsignor Bromley closed the meeting with a prayer.
