BUSINESS
ARISING
3.1 Monsignor Bromley met with the Finance Committee on
November 9, 2006. The purpose of the
meeting was to review the Diocesan policy on Finance Committees. The committee will schedule to meet more
frequently, with the next meeting scheduled for January 10, 2007. Minutes of the November 9 meeting will be
reviewed at the next parish council meeting.
There was some discussion regarding
how long the committee has been in place and whether some new people should be
appointed or elected. Monsignor Bromley
feels that the present committee should remain in place for the time being.
3.2 There has been no formal
response from the Presentation Sisters regarding the Parish Council decision
not to lease St. Joseph’s Convent.
Monsignor Bromley has spoken to the person who is taking care of the
sale of the building, George Hawco.
There is some concern over right of way to the building, which is by
going through parish property. The
other possible entrance would be via the property where St. Joseph’s School
is. However, ownership of the land is
in question and being looked into by Bill Finn.
3.3 Bernard reported that there is
some interest by the business community to advertise in the parish
bulletin. It was decided by council
that for a fee of $25.00, the bulletin can be donated by a business, or an individual
person or family could donate it in memory of a loved one. This will be announced in the parish
bulletin for November 19, 2006.
3.4 Bernard has not yet spoken to
anyone regarding acquiring grants for cemetery maintenance. Concord Paving has donated 14 tonnes of
crushed stone to the parish. This has
been placed on the cemetery driveway. A
letter of thanks will be sent to the company.
Bernard also reported that he did
some repairs to the eaves of the church this week. A boom truck was rented from Simm’s Garage in order to access the
eaves. He noted that the church windows
will need some attention in the spring as well. There is plexiglass screwed to the window frames to protect the
glass, but moisture is getting in. The
plexiglass will have to be removed so that the wood surrounding the windows can
dry out and then it can be replaced and secured properly so that moisture
cannot get in. There is also some
problems with leakage that need to be repaired as soon as possible.
3.5 Monsignor Bromley reported on
the property on Bunker Hill. One
parcel of land on Bunker Hill needs to be registered with the government. It was left to the parish by a late
parishioner. Monsignor Bromley will see
that it is done. The parish has no
record of the parcel of land located adjacent to the other property. Bill Finn is looking into it.
3.6 There are presently three youth
from our parish who have applied with the Diocesan Youth Office to attend WYD
in Austrailia. Since th deeadline is
past, Monsignor Bromley will check with that office to see if they have enough
applicants and if they do not he will mention it again in church.
3.7 The request by the choir for a
better audio system was discussed.
Bernard will check with the choir to see what exactly they need and will
also look into the cost.
Barnard also reported that the
choir would like to have their pews put on an angle. He will check with the choir to make sure they all agree and also
to see if it is aesthetically correct.
3.8 Paul Baldwin suggested that a
parishioner instead of a paid employee of the Parish should attend the
ordination of Bill Pearce. Monsignor
will ask for volunteers this weekend during Mass and it will also be published
in the parish bulletin.
Monsignor Bromley spoke to Father
Matthews regarding Dave White’s inquiry as to whether or not he needs financial
assistance from the parish. Father
Matthews has no problems in that area but appreciates the concern.
NEW
BUSINESS
Bernard
felt that we should not add anything to the agenda in the New Business section,
as we have a lot of business currently ongoing. His main concern is raising the money to make the necessary
repairs to the church. There was some
discussion regarding the condition of the Parish Centre and whether or not it
should be sold. Issued deferred until
next meeting.
James
wondered if it would be possible for the choir to have a memorial hymn sing in
December to raise some funds. Jeannie
will discuss this with Monsignor Bromley at the office, since the choir has
already brought up the idea to her and she has not had a chance to speack to
Monsignor Bromley about it.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS
Paul
reported what the Youth Deanery Committee is working on. Bishop Currie would like to see about 25
youth attend the Stubenville Youth Rally which will be held in Antigonish, NS
in 2007. There are plans underway for a
Deanery Youth Rally as well as participation in the Development & Peace
Think Fast program. The next meeting
will take place in Brigus on November 29.
Paul will encourage some youth to attend.
James
reported that the book balance as of the end of October was $9, 156.81. He has sent a cheque for $2, 600.00 to
Catholic Missions in Canada (CMIC) for the first loan payment which was due in
November. The parish will receive a
grant of $5000.00 in May, 2007 which will be used for the Catechetical Program.
The
next meeting will be held on December 13, 2006.
Monsignor
Bromley said a closing prayer and the meeting was adjourned.
