BUSINESS ARISING

4.1       Ches reported that the work on the renovations to the choir section of the church are almost complete.  The sound system (installed by C. B. Music) is finished and is working well and paid for.  Risers for the pews have been completed and supplies paid for.  Carpet for the risers has been ordered from Victoria Carpet Shop and will be installed in two or three weeks time.  Ches also noted that the carpentry and electrical work, with the exception of the work done by CB Music, was completed by the men from the choir at no charge.  A notice will be placed in the bulletin, thanking everyone for their work.

4.2       The Parish Mission ended today.   Monsignor Bromley said that it went well and was pleased that we had a priest (Rev. Brian Colbert) form our own diocese for the mission.

A notice will be placed in the bulletin, thanking those who helped organize and thanking the participants.

4.3       Since, Paul Baldwin was absent, the issue of using the K of C as a possible location for a small scale parish bingo was deferred.

4.4       A notice was placed in the parish bulleting asking parishioners to be considerate of others when parking in church parking lot.

4.5            Bernard reported that Jim Butt has increased the temperature of the furnace in the church for weekend Mass.

4.6             Bernard reported that 11 youth and 2 chaperones will attend Steubenville Atlantic in Antigonish, Nova Scotia.

NEW BUSINESS

5.1            Bernard reported that there is a problem with the roof of the parish house.  There is a lot of moss growing on it.  There was some discussion regrading whether or one of the chestnut trees is shading the house too much and whether or not to remove the tree.  The same tree has caused problems in the past with its roots growing into the sewer line.

Bernard will check into it.

5.2            Bernard read some email correspondence from Gerard Butt regarding a federal grant that is available (Canada Summer Jobs, CSJ).  Gerard has applied for four positions.  If successful, the students would work on upgrading the parish website with information on St. Patrick’s Cemetery.

Bernard also stated that Joseph Griffin is looking into the Provincial grants that are available as well.  It is the intention to try and get a couple of students to work in the cemetery and do some maintenance work.

5.3            Bernard was concerned about whether an environmental study is needed for the land that St. Joseph’s School was on. Eugene pointed out that oil was not used as a source of heat and therefore the study is probably not needed.

5.4       There was some discussion about the years that Patrick Merrigan volunteered in the parish by taking care of the cemetery.  It was agreed that a plaque of some sort should be presented to him in thanks.  Eleanor will bring this to the Liturgy Committee.

5.5            Bernard asked the members to act as liaisons between the parish council and various organizations and committees within the parish.   Eugene Hurley–Finance Committee;  Joseph Griffin–Fundraising; Ches Sheppard–Choir, Rose Mooney–Catholic Women’s League & the St. Vincent de Paul Society; Dave White–Maintenance Committee; Eleanor Ash–Liturgy Committee & Paul Baldwin—Youth.  Bernard also asked Mike Rogers to be a part of the Maintenance Committee.
