The minutes of the October 17, 2007 meeting were reviewed.  Mike Rogers  moved that the minutes of the October 17, 2007 meeting be adopted as read.  Seconded by Rose Mooney.  Motion carried.

BUSINESS ARISING

Monsignor Bromley reported that when the new lectionaries are available, they will be placed in the church in memory of Patrick Sweeney with an engraving on front of the books.   The paschal candle stand will be engraved stating that it is in memory of the White family.  Both the Sweeney family and the White family made donations to the church in their memories.

The dead tree that was in the church parking lot has been cut down by Newfoundland Power and removed by Bernard & Mike.  If any of the other trees begin to lean on power lines, then they will also be removed or trimmed in the Spring of 2008.

Mike Rogers reported on the church roof repair.  Newfound Roofing will send an estimate on the cost of elastomaric coating to Mike on Thursday or Friday of this week.  This coating has a lifetime warranty and is the best option for repairing the roof.  Mike will also get an estimate from this company on the cost of repairing the metal siding on the church, which is causing the small windows in the church damage due to leakage.

Mike also reported that on advice from the structural engineer who looked at the church,  he is drilling 3/8 inch holes in the lexcon that is covering the tall windows in the church to allow moisture to escape and prevent damage to the windows.

The concrete foundation of the church is also in need of repair and estimates are forthcoming on the cost as well as estimates on repairing the front of the church that is weeping calcium from the concrete.

Mike reminded council that these are all estimates only and does not obligate us to anything.  It will just give council an idea to the cost of repairs.

Paul reported that the youth group did not go to the Lewisporte retreat.

Bernard looked at the area around Camp McCarthy with Phil Hurley.  There is a lot of tree tops and debris from cutting in the area.  Phil will clean up the area and remove the debris.

Bernard also reported that Phil will remove the trees in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.  These trees are a potential problem due to their large roots.  It was noted that this situation was omitted from the October 17 minutes and Eleanor made a motion “To amend the October 17, 2007 minutes to include discussion and approval of tree removal in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.”  Seconded by Eugene Hurley.  Motion carried.

Bernard has not received a response from the Knights of Columbus regarding a bingo at the K of C building.  He will discuss this with Grand Knight Paul Baldwin at a later date.

Monsignor reported that as a measure to reduce costs, the Secretary/Housekeeper’s hours will be reduced to 20 hours per week beginning November 19, 2007.  The parish office hours will now be 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

The Pastoral Assistant’s position will remain the same for the time being as the parish will receive a grant form Catholic Missions in Canada (CMIC) of $7000.00 in May, 2008.  Sacred Heart Church, Heart’s Desire will also receive $7000.00 in the form of a grant from CMIC to  help them with their expenses.
