Gerard called the meeting to order at 7:30
p.m. Ray said an opening prayer.
The minutes of the October 5, 2005
meeting were reviewed. Information on
Diocesan Medal was reworded to read: “There is a Diocesan Medal available to recognize
parishioners who have given long and faithful service to the parish or
diocese. Bishop Currie would be
available, at the recommendation of the Parish Council, to present up to 2 of
these medals. Issue deferred for
further consideration and discussion.” Mary moved that the minutes from the October 5, 2005 meeting be adopted
as changed. Seconded by Jim. Motion carried.
BUSINESS ARISING
Parish Council has contracted IPC Photographers
to compile a Parish Photo Directory. Photos will be taken on January 11,
12, 13, & 14, 2006. The CWL in Carbonear has been
asked for their assistance in scheduling appointments for family photos.
Moved by Bernard Fitzpatrick that
the parish council seek nominations from parishioners of individuals they feel
worthy of a Diocesan Medal which could be presented by Bishop
Currie during the 150 th Anniversary year. Nominations would be reviewed by
Parish Council, from which possibly 2 names could be submitted. Seconded by
Frank O’Keefe. Carried.
Bernard will action this process.
Gerard
had suggested calling a meeting with interested parents to form a World
Youth Day 2008 planning committee, to look at things such as fund raising, etc. Eleanor had suggested
that a Youth Group could be established with applicants coming from the
group. No action was decided.
Funding
for repairs to the sacristy roof will be finalized with CMIC on November 10,
2005. Frank O’Keefe informed the
council that NewFound Roofing will start the repairs as soon a weather is
suitable. In the meantime the building committee will have a look at the leak
in the furnace room.
Eleanor
had requested funding at the last meeting on October 5, 2005 for a religious education resource
called “Touching
Jesus Through the Church.” Monsignor would expect Eleanor to discuss this
program with him. Eleanor was absent. No action taken.
Request
for Wood Cutting at Camp McCarthy – It was decided that any requests would have to be
denied. Property is leased to Knights of Columbus, and if we give permission to
one, we might have to grant permission to all that applied. Gerard would
contact individual and explain the situation
NEW
BUSINESS
Parish
Center -
Building Security was discussed. Gerard
will talk to Eleanor about monitoring the situation. A sign reminding users to
check and lock doors will be posted. Ray will check the light at back of
building.
Sale
of Presentation Convent and the possibility of parish acquiring this property was discussed.
Gerard and Frank will to check into the particulars of buying this property and
selling present parish center.
St.
Joseph’s School building was discussed. Bill Finn, acting on behalf of the parish, would be
notified that we would like for the school board to remove the building from
the land and restore the land similar to the surrounding area. Bill has agreed
to contact Milton Peach, chair of the school board.
Diocesan
Anniversary
was discussed. Bonnie and Jim Langer from Sacred Heart Church will receive the proclamation
at the Open Mass in Harbour Grace, and Madge Welsh will read proclaimation at
weekend mass. Parish Council will choose parishioners for St. Patrick’s Church.
Some
basic maintenance in church needs to be completed before Chrism Mass in April.
Building Committee will have a look at this.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
Parish Committee for
Diocesan 150th Anniversary
Ray
is gathering together some old parish pictures; they’ll probably be displayed
in the Sacristy.
OTHER
BUSINESS
Monsignor updated the council on the Anniversay
project: Parishes Helping Parishes. The CWL is spear-heading this
project.
The
next meeting will take place on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at
7:30 p.m.
