BUSINESS ARISING
Diocesan Medal - Parishioners were
informed through the weekly church bulletin that the parish council was
seeking nominations from parishioners
of individuals they felt were worthy of a Diocesan Medal which
could be presented by Bishop Currie during the 150 th Anniversary year.
Parishioners were notified that Nominations would be reviewed by Parish
Council, from which possibly 2 names could be submitted. Five nominations were
received.
Security of Parish Center
- Eleanor will monitor the situation. Notices
reminding users to check and lock doors, and leave on security lights have been
posted.
Sale of Presentation
Convent
- Gerard has checked with the Presentation Sisters, Bishop Currie, and has
received an Information Package from George Hawco, Chair of the Building
Committee for the Presentation Sisters, about the particulars of buying St.
Joseph=s Convent
property. This information was brought to the meeting.
St. Joseph=s School building - Gerard received
correspondence from Bill Finn, acting on behalf of the parish, and from Dr.
Darin King, Director of Eastern School District, stating that the school board
has initiated steps to remove the building from the land and restore the site
to a reasonable condition. This should occur in the spring.
Roof Repairs: Sacristy,
Furnace Room, etc.
- Work
carried out by NewFound Roofing at a cost of $14, 450.00. Gerard was not
satisfied with the quality and look of the work completed. Contractor had not
followed specifications. Gerard discussed the work with Frank O=Keefe, chair of
Building Committee, and Jack George,
chair of Finance Committee, but both indicated that the parish had no
alternative but to pay contractor. At
Gerard=s request, Contractor
returned and did some finishing touches to the job. The Contractor was then
paid with a 20 % hold back.
Request for Wood
Cutting at Camp McCarthy - Gerard had informed the individual concerned of Parish
Council=s decision not to
permit wood cutting on Camp McCarthy property. The reasons for this decision
were explained to the individual.
NEW BUSINESS
Nominations for
Diocesan Medals - Five
nominations were received for consideration for a Diocesan Medal. They were
Edward Slade, John Dunphy, Gerard Griffin, Theresa Butt, and Patrick Merrigan.
Information about each person=s contribution to the Parish and Diocese was read. The Parish Council could now possibly recommend two of these names for Diocesan
Medal recognition. It was deferred to our next meeting on January 11, 2006, on
where we would go from here.
Parish Proposal re: Presentation Convent There was discussion
on the possibility of parish acquiring this property. It was agreed that if the
Parish were to take ownership of the Convent building, the parish would sell
the exiting parish center which is currently in need of extensive repairs.
Monsignor would speak to Bishop Currie about the parish purchasing the
property. Jim moved that the
Parish Council submit a proposal to buy the Convent for a nominal fee of one
dollar. Seconded by Bernard. Carried.
