ST. PATRICK=S PARISH COUNCIL

Present:        Rev. E. T. Bromley,   James Butt, Paul Baldwin,   Eleanor Ash

Bernard Fitzpatrick, David White,   Jeannie Garland (recording secretary). 

Gerard Butt, Anastasia Furey and Frank O=Keefe were unable to attend.

 

Bernard Fitzpatrick acted as Chair in Gerard Butt=s absence and called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.  Paul Baldwin said an opening prayer.

 

The minutes of the April 5, 2006 meeting were reviewed.  Paul Baldwin  moved that the minutes from the April 5, 2006 meeting be adopted as presented.  Seconded by James Butt.  Motion carried.

 

BUSINESS ARISING

The Mass of Chrism was held on April 6, 2006.  Monsignor Bromley noted the time and effort put into the preparation for the mass.

 

The Blue Mass was held on April 22, 2006 and was well attended.  Monsignor Bromley would like to see it continue in the future.

 

Paul Baldwin moved that we thank the individuals, via the parish bulletin, involved in preparing for the Chrism Mass as well as the Blue Mass.  Seconded by James Butt.  Motion carried.  Monsignor Bromley will include this thank you in the bulletin for May 7 as a Anote from the pastor@.

 

The Building & Maintenance Committee met on April 26, 2006.  In attendance were, Bernard Fitzpatrick, Edward Slade, Gerard Butt and Mike Rogers.  There are some problems with the ceiling in the choir loft area and there is water coming in through the area where the tower is located.  These problems will have to be addressed in the near future.

 

There was some discussion regarding the proposed lease of the convent building.  Bernard has some concerns regarding the lease.  Monsignor Bromley also has concerns regarding the affordability of leasing the convent considering that in 2005 the parish had a deficit of approximately $17, 000.  He also stated that the Finance Committee is against signing the lease and that he is not willing to sign it either.  He also reminded the council that the Bishop has the final say in this matter and will probably not be in agreement.

 

 

 


NEW BUSINESS

 

Paul Baldwin, chair of the new Staffing Committee, will hold a meeting on May 11 to begin working on terms of reference for parish staff.   He is in the process of recruiting members for the committee as well as gathering some information from other parishes. 

Roy Clarke has resigned from his position as caretaker for the parish effective May 5, 2006.  Roy has held this position for 15 years.  Paul Baldwin moved that a lunch be held for Roy in recognition of his 15 years of service to the parish and that the parish give him a monetary gift not to exceed $100.00 Seconded by Eleanor Ash.  Motion carried.

 

The promotion and planning for the planned May 28, 2006 performance of the Philharmonic Choir of the Newfoundland Symphony Choir will be taken care of by Jeannie Garland along with Eleanor Ash and James Butt.

 

A letter of appreciation will be sent to Bill Bowman, editor of The Compass, for his excellent coverage of the Chrism Mass as well as the Blue Mass. 

 

A special meeting of the Parish Council will be held some time in the coming week to discuss and finalize the proposed leasing of the convent building from the Presentation Sisters.  Bernard will speak to Gerard to discuss a date and time.

 

Some maintenance work will begin on the church washrooms on May 10, 2006 following Mass.  A reminder will be placed in the bulletin.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Liturgy Committee

The next Liturgy Committee meeting will be held on May 24, 2006.

 

Finance Committee

The estimated book balance for April, 2006 is $9,386.00.  Receipts for April was $19, 164 and disbursements was $13, 439.

 

There was some discussion regarding the format for the 2005 financial statement to be published for parishioners and whether or not to include cash assets. Monsignor Bromley will finalize the statement and it  will be included in the bulletin.

 

Cemetery

Bernard reported that Mike Rogers has begun as cemetery supervisor.


 

 

OTHER BUSINESS

 

The issue of the nominations for Diocesan Medals will be put on the agenda for the next regular meeting.

 

Paul Baldwin expressed his wish to try and start some type of Parish Youth Group.  Monsignor Bromley would strongly support a spiritually based group.  Paul will work on this over the summer.

 

The next regular meeting will take place on June 7, 2006.
