Father David Heale
March 3, 1946 – April 16, 2008
Father Davis Heale served two terms at St. Patrick’s Parish, Carbonear. First, as assistant priest to Monsignor J. W. Peddle (1973-1974) and again as Parish Priest (1981-1985). It was with great sadness and shock that we learned of his death on April 16, 2008. A priest of the Diocese of Grand Falls for 38 years, his passing leaves a void in our midst.
Father Heale’s response to God’s call in his life to serve as a priest was a real blessing for our diocese. For 38 years he was a “pastor” in the real sense of the word and he was equally at home with all people – clergy, religious, and laity. His ever-pervasive smile, his easy-going style, and his sense of humor were just some of the characteristics that drew people to him. There were no “airs” about Father Heale. He was a “down-to-earth” sort of person who knew how to combine work and pleasure. He loved God, he loved his priestly vocation and he loved his family and friends. What more can one ask?
The Mass of Christian Burial for Farther David Heale was celebrated at Holy Cross Church in Holyrood on Monday, April 21, 2008.
Eternal rest grant unto his soul, O Lord
