During the weekend of August 3 - 5, 2007, young people from many of our parishes journeyed to Nova Scotia for Steubenville Atlantic. They had a weekend filled with fun, prayer, music, fellowship and faith. More than one thousand like-minded teenagers were in Antigonish for this gathering. Pilgrims from our parish who traveled to this important event are: Patrick BUTT, Gerard BUTT, Katrina BUTT, Andrew BALDWIN, Dylan BUTT, Dwayne MALONEY, Christopher BUTT, Caitlyn BUTT, Erica HORWOOD, Benjamin HISCOCK & their chaperones: Paul BALDWIN & Nellie MERRIGAN.
Pictures from their weekend to be posted soon.
As you may be aware, Emily HURLEY will be attending World Youth Day 2008 in Australia. In an effort to help her with the fund-raising necessary for her journey, an account has been set up at the Green Depot on Adelaide Street in Carbonear. If you would like to donate the refund from your recyclables (beverage containers, bottles, etc.), just tell the staff at the depot to put it on Emily Hurley's account. Your help is greatly appreciated.
In 1987, Father Andrew Cushieri, a professor at St. Augustine's Seminary, donated ten thousand dollars ($10,000) to our diocese and requested that the accumulated yearly interest would be awarded to a young person between the ages of seven (7) and eighteen (18).
The young person nominated must have been a student for at least part of the previous twelve month period in a primary, elementary, or high school within the Diocese of Grand Falls. The young person(s) must have accomplished a humanitarian act towards another human being(s).
The guidelines are available at our local parish office. As well, please feel free to check with the Youth Ministry Office at 709-489-4019 if you have any questions.
This year's winner of the Father Andrew Cushierii Award towards the tuition costs of post-secondary education is Jonathon REMEDIOS of St. Alphonsus Parish, Whitbourne. There were four nominees this year and we thank and congratulate all who were nominated. The award this year is $ 500.00
Patrick Butt represented St. Patrick's Parish in Cologne, Germany in August, 2005 for World Youth Day. Patrick travelled with eleven other youth and three adult chaperones from our diocese.
